Absolutely Free DIY Home Decor

I recently put up two photo collages that had been put away since we moved, going on 4 years now.  I love the idea of them and  there's so many older pictures on them from before the digital camera came along.  My only issue with them is that they don't fit in with our decor, plus we've out grown them...we aren't in our early 20s anymore.  They don't say grown up to me they say dorm room or just starting out. But I love displaying our pictures without having to empty my wallet out for 100s of frames.  I came up with what I have to say was a brilliant idea. This last spring I found an ad on Craigslist for a ton of old windows for free and I was lucky enough to snatch them all up. Some of  the windows were missing their glass or broken so I chose one of them.  It took me most of the summer with five minutes here and there to remove broken glass and clean it up a little.

Here's what window looked like, the BEFORE.

While we were fixing up the back fence for the goats we dug up some old chicken wire, yea I know that doesn't sound home decor to you but it won't look like I dug it out of the dirt once I'm done with it.

Then it took me another month or so to gather the chicken wire and attach it to the back of the window. For some odd reason I decided to do this on a 90 degree summer day, I was sweating my lady nards off. After stretching it tight as I could and stapling it in place borrowing my hubby's tools and putting them back where I found them.  I usually get all excited when I finish a project that I forget the clean and put away step.  I'm pretty sure I should have went in for a tetanus booster after handling that old wire but I'm sure I'll be fine.

This is how I attached it, with staples.

I did get some assistance from my helpful hubby he showed me how to attach eyelets and wire so I could hang it.  I love the way it came out and now I can display our photos in a rustic vintage style.

This is the eyelet with wire.

AFTER...I love it!!

Gift Guide for the Non Sports Fan Man

With Christmas shopping in full swing I wanted to help out those ladies that are struggling to find the perfect gift for the man in their life, be it a husband, boyfriend, or father. But this list isn't for the typical man who loves or plays sports, it's for the tiny percentage of them out there that don't partake in the sports world. Or maybe your fella does love sports but you want to get him something different this year, look no further I've got you covered.      Mr. Homestead isn't a sports fan which isn't common but I think there's more men like him out there than we realize and it makes it a bit harder to shop for him.  He's a fan of working with his hands in the garage, whether it's fabricating or working under the hood of a truck.  Ever since the first Christmas we shared it's been difficult for me to shop for him although now that we've been together for 14 years it's gotten a lot easier. In those 14 years I've search...

Thank You

Since today is Thanksgiving the holiday for acknowledging what we're thankful for, I knew I needed to make a post dedicated to all our supporters. So here it is a letter to each and everyone out there following us on this journey. Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters of Every Type      I'm writing this because I recently did a story on Instagram and I tried tagging all the people who have supported us and mean so much to us. But as soon as I added it I knew there were so many that I hadn't mentioned or wasn't able to tag.  There are some people who aren't on social media, I'm not sure what they do all day. How do they pass the minutes while taking in their morning coffee, who knows. Moving on, I now know how all those Oscar, Grammy and CMA winners must feel when they win and have to thank everyone in about 10 seconds. Anyhoo...      Thank you to everyone who follows us on Instagram and Facebook. Thank you to all who have ...

DIY Chicken Coop Remodel

Who doesn't love fresh eggs these days? When we started our homestead we had our own chickens but had to get rid of them last summer.  Of course we missed having fresh breakfast but we also missed having our ladies (that's what we call them) around. But before we could get new chicks we needed a new chicken coop because we weren't able to keep them in the same location.  I'm not sure if you've seen the price of new coops but this Mama keeps her purse strings tight and I wasn't about to fork out that much cash.  So our plan was to build our own coop, that was until I was scrolling Facebook's marketplace.  Not sure who else scans FB marketplace for useful free items but this homestead Mama loves the free stuff.  Back to my story, I came across a free chicken coop that looked promising. Then the hard part convincing the hubby that we needed to stop what we were doing to run into town and pick it up. He was actually easily convinced and we all ju...
