Planting and planting some more

I posted some pictures this week on our Facebook fan page showing our progress on the garden. If you follow us on Facebook you know there was one small set back, picking seeds up that a little boy got his hands on.  We had sowed spinach, lettuce, kale, and broccoli about a month ago but nothing popped up so I re-sowed them.  I'd sure like to enjoy some leafy greens so I threw in some extra love this time.

I also sowed some melon seeds from our last cantaloupe just to see if anything will come up.  Some other stuff we got in the ground was a mix of squash starts, bush bean seeds and some flower seeds.  I'm wanting a full garden of vegetables with colorful flowers surrounding them.

We split up and did double duties one day this week...I tended to the potato beds by covering the sprouts with a layer of dirt and the hubby cut up some more logs. Wheeling dirt to the potatoes turned out to be more work than I thought and luckily Mr. Homestead helped me finish it up after lunch that day. I forgot to get a picture after we covered them on Wednesday and today when I went out there's more sprouts coming through the layer of dirt already.  The plan for this next week is to finish up the drip line and get the rest of our starts in plus any other chores we come up with along the way. Well it's about time to go put the ladies to bed and pick up the eggs they've left us, night.

Thank You

Since today is Thanksgiving the holiday for acknowledging what we're thankful for, I knew I needed to make a post dedicated to all our supporters. So here it is a letter to each and everyone out there following us on this journey. Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters of Every Type      I'm writing this because I recently did a story on Instagram and I tried tagging all the people who have supported us and mean so much to us. But as soon as I added it I knew there were so many that I hadn't mentioned or wasn't able to tag.  There are some people who aren't on social media, I'm not sure what they do all day. How do they pass the minutes while taking in their morning coffee, who knows. Moving on, I now know how all those Oscar, Grammy and CMA winners must feel when they win and have to thank everyone in about 10 seconds. Anyhoo...      Thank you to everyone who follows us on Instagram and Facebook. Thank you to all who have ...

Fall catch up

Well our little lady is 3 months old and we've almost got her figured out. It really would be nice if babies came with manuals or maybe a live in nanny.  The homestead hasn't been getting much attention but that should be changing now.  Our honey do list for the property seems endless at the moment. We had to sit and write everything down and organize it into the coming months and weeks.       There is one project that will be ongoing until spring, raised beds.  We have come to the conclusion that we are tired of putting so many hours of work plus so much sweat into a garden that isn't yielding the harvest it should.  It was our hope to improve our soil but at this point it doesn't seem possible.  Plus the fact that we can't keep intruders from eating our plants.  Now we will be able to bring in beautiful soil and build barriers around the beds.      Some other items on our list include fencing...

Busy Bees

I'm trying to catch up on here, we've been so busy lately.  We get going on the homestead with chores for days then we have to go back to the real world of our actual paying jobs and then next thing I know it's a new week.  Last week we did some much needed maintenance on the homestead of trimming up some trees. That was an all week project with a little work on the garden. We have at least a handful of trees that are in need of some desperate trimming. We got to two of them and the process is still continuing. We still need to take what we trimmed off to a local tree limb drop off site. It's amazing how much better and happier the trees look.  Besides trimming them up for landscaping reasons we also did it to discourage the deer from hanging out under them. We don't want them getting comfortable on our property close to our garden. The first tree was pretty simple of just cutting limbs down. The second tree was more challenging, it didn't want to let go...
