Spring isn't quite here yet but it's making small appearances with a couple blooms and a few warm days. Unfortunately I think the groundhog seeing his shadow was correct because we just can't kick this cold blustery weather and our wood pile became bare. We still had some cut logs down under a tarp so off came the auger and on went the splitter again. It filled most of the truck bed almost half a cord and hoping it gets us through the rest of winter, we'd like to move onto more thrilling chores other than firewood.

Last split of the season. |
It's now time to prepare for spring and our busy season. For instance Papa got the lawnmower running again because before you know it the grass will dry out and it will be a jungle that has to be maintained. Since it's been sitting for a few months the battery needed a jump and that didn't do the trick so onto the charger it went. While it was running Papa took his little girl on a ride to do a quick trim on the garden entrance. She enjoyed the ride and Papa cleaning up the grass she keeps tripping on. We try to remember to put Stabil in the gas tank so it doesn't go bad over it's resting months. Plus we need to go around and pick up the homestead grounds.

Papa/daughter ride. |
With wind storms and the heavy rainfall limbs have fallen all over and need picked up especially in our "yard" area. The lawnmower isn't able to chomp up some of those chunky oak limbs. There's also toys that have been buried in the tall grass that if not picked up will become one with the lawn once they go through the spinning blades. Every year we seem to lose a toy or two that gets missed and chewed up by the big mower. Plus pieces of trash that have flown across the yard after falling out of the car or kids leaving their mark here and there. It's pretty much pre-spring cleaning for the premises. Our homestead is our little oasis and we like to keep it looking that way. Alright now back to the homestead.
