Sick Days on Homestead?

I know I know it's been like two weeks and trust me I would have rather been blogging than what I was dealing with, the cold from hell.  I've had colds before who hasn't, but this isn't like any other cold it has like super powers.   It started on Memorial day with lil man just having an itty bitty cough, next day full cold and since it's trickled down the whole family.  Little lady was second, then myself, and now it has taken over poor Papa.  Of course when it took over me it was the beginning of Papa's work week.  Being a mom is a hard job but when you're sick and the kids are sick it becomes ten times worse plus you add the chores of the homestead and it feels like I'm being asked to climb a mountain.

Plants keeping growing even when we're sick.

I've found myself jealous at times of some of the bigger homestead/farms we follow on Instagram until I felt like I was dying then I was so happy we're just starting out and don't have 1,000 eggs to pick up or cows to feed.  It took all my energy and my day quil kicking in for me to drag my body to the car and drive down to the greenhouse and water the plants, in my pajamas and bra-less of course, who's going to see me and I didn't care.  I tried calling in, but as it turns out when you work at home for your homestead there's no such thing as sick days, I don't recall agreeing to this though.  Luckily for me Papa is so amazing and had gotten all the drip system in because there's no way I could have watered the entire garden in my condition.

I guess it was a good thing the kids and I were both sick or else they would have been fighting me to go outside and play, instead we laid on the couch and watched Netflix and dvds.  It was a gorgeous week weather wise too, which was sad to miss, it's one thing to be sick in the winter but when the sun is shining I just want to be outside.  Boy was I one happy Mama to have Papa back after working, he let me sleep and he cleaned up, cause unfortunately I wasn't up for cleaning, and to help with what the kids needed.

My new buddy.

We're going on two weeks now and we're still not at 100% though, lil man is just about there as he keeps reminding us he's almost better.  Our poor little lady though, hers has turned into bilateral ear infections, draining ears are quite gross.  I'm better in the sense that I'm doing things but my head won't stop draining out my nose, and the cough is sticking around for me too.  Let's just hope Papa can show this cold who's boss and kick it's butt cause I'm ready for our house to be without coughing battles and nose/ears draining.  Alright now back to the homestead.

The Tale of Two Goats

Well we've had Lily and Belle for two weeks now and they are doing wonderful.  I had a bit of a scare when we picked them up from the eccentric goat breeding lady.  The lady picked up one goat and Casey picked up the other one and when he put them in the back of the car Belle let out this horrific scream, the goat not the lady.  Casey says I froze up and my eyes were all bugged out..I don't recall this but he is still getting a kick out of it.  I did stop for a second because I thought she was hurt.  She was just pissed we were taking her away from her family. The car ride home.            When we got them home and let them lose onto the back of our property they dashed for the fence and wanted nothing to do with us.  They relaxed more as the day went by and will come up to us and sniff us.  All the work we put into making them a comfy shelter/bed and they wouldn't sleep in it...they are usin...

Keeping Busy

We are getting so close to having the garden all done and planted.  I love gardening but I want to move on to other chores.  Hopefully just one more week of transplanting and the garden will be in.  The cantaloupe seeds I saved and planted have popped out of the ground. I wasn't sure about them but so far it's a success which makes me smile.  The cantaloupe sprouts saying hello. The peas are growing fast, so we put up some T-posts and fencing for a trellis for them to climb up.  The T-posts we already had and the fencing we acquired from family that didn't want it anymore.  I took video to show how we wrapped the fencing onto the posts and I'll be posting that on our you tube channel.  The drip system is all laid out and in place for the most part.  There was an unexpected chore that came up this week. The trellis for the peas.  I was minding my own business doing the dishes the other morning when I realized our water pressure had dwindled...

The Great Zucchini Flood of 2014

We've been enjoying our delicious rewards from our garden.  It's hard to explain the feeling you get when you feed your family food you've grown.  To know we started all of our plants from seed and have taken care of them and they've grown into these beautiful plants and are now providing us with food makes me a bit speechless.  It's pretty awesome to provide our lil farmer boy with food we've grown and he's having a blast helping us.  Going out every day to the garden and finding a new surprise, whether it's finding something new producing or just seeing lil man get so excited about it warms my heart so much. The other night I prepared dinner from a Rachael Ray recipe I've been using and adjusted it by adding more veggies.  Our broccoli was ready and used some our endless supply of zucchini, it was pretty delicious, the boys devoured it.  To use up more of the pile of zucchini we have I spent the day with my sis baking zucchini bread.  We needed s...
