New baby on the Homestead

It's been way too long since our last blog post.  Lately we've been busy with a newborn, yes getting no sleep or showers and just trying to make the little lady happy...that's the baby not wife.  We worked so hard, that's mostly a lie the hubby worked really hard getting in the garden because my big prego belly was in the way and now it's mostly a bust.  When we found out we were pregnant we should have just pressed the pause button on our big homestead projects but we thought we could do it all, boy were we wrong.

The only thing still going is our tomato plants, and what's left of our jalapeno plants.  We lost the battle with the wildlife this year, they've been enjoying all of our sweat and hard work we did of planting them a great buffet of vegetables.  We got a little victory last night when we went down to the garden.  There were three squirrels in the squirrelinator, we've had that darn trap for months now and it's finally starting to pay off.  Now before I start getting crap about trapping squirrels these aren't gray squirrels they are digging squirrels.  They are a nuisance and only destroy our property along with eating everything in our garden.  Our decision in getting bees was the only smart one we made this season.  We've just been making them bee food and added a super and queen extractor to their hives and haven't done much else besides inspect them a handful of times.

Our little lady has been keeping us pretty busy especially since she made her appearance a week early.  These days we are mostly walking around like dirty zombies and don't get much done except for maybe the dishes.  The wonderful joys of having a new baby in the house.  Papa has been pretty awesome at taking care of us all, since I had a c-section I was pretty useless for the first couple of weeks.  Once we get this new baby figured out we'll be getting outside more and be more productive, but for now our extra time is spent trying to get a nap in.

Thank You

Since today is Thanksgiving the holiday for acknowledging what we're thankful for, I knew I needed to make a post dedicated to all our supporters. So here it is a letter to each and everyone out there following us on this journey. Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters of Every Type      I'm writing this because I recently did a story on Instagram and I tried tagging all the people who have supported us and mean so much to us. But as soon as I added it I knew there were so many that I hadn't mentioned or wasn't able to tag.  There are some people who aren't on social media, I'm not sure what they do all day. How do they pass the minutes while taking in their morning coffee, who knows. Moving on, I now know how all those Oscar, Grammy and CMA winners must feel when they win and have to thank everyone in about 10 seconds. Anyhoo...      Thank you to everyone who follows us on Instagram and Facebook. Thank you to all who have ...

Fall catch up

Well our little lady is 3 months old and we've almost got her figured out. It really would be nice if babies came with manuals or maybe a live in nanny.  The homestead hasn't been getting much attention but that should be changing now.  Our honey do list for the property seems endless at the moment. We had to sit and write everything down and organize it into the coming months and weeks.       There is one project that will be ongoing until spring, raised beds.  We have come to the conclusion that we are tired of putting so many hours of work plus so much sweat into a garden that isn't yielding the harvest it should.  It was our hope to improve our soil but at this point it doesn't seem possible.  Plus the fact that we can't keep intruders from eating our plants.  Now we will be able to bring in beautiful soil and build barriers around the beds.      Some other items on our list include fencing...
