Absolutely Free DIY Home Decor

I recently put up two photo collages that had been put away since we moved, going on 4 years now.  I love the idea of them and  there's so many older pictures on them from before the digital camera came along.  My only issue with them is that they don't fit in with our decor, plus we've out grown them...we aren't in our early 20s anymore.  They don't say grown up to me they say dorm room or just starting out. But I love displaying our pictures without having to empty my wallet out for 100s of frames.  I came up with what I have to say was a brilliant idea. This last spring I found an ad on Craigslist for a ton of old windows for free and I was lucky enough to snatch them all up. Some of  the windows were missing their glass or broken so I chose one of them.  It took me most of the summer with five minutes here and there to remove broken glass and clean it up a little.

Here's what window looked like, the BEFORE.

While we were fixing up the back fence for the goats we dug up some old chicken wire, yea I know that doesn't sound home decor to you but it won't look like I dug it out of the dirt once I'm done with it.

Then it took me another month or so to gather the chicken wire and attach it to the back of the window. For some odd reason I decided to do this on a 90 degree summer day, I was sweating my lady nards off. After stretching it tight as I could and stapling it in place borrowing my hubby's tools and putting them back where I found them.  I usually get all excited when I finish a project that I forget the clean and put away step.  I'm pretty sure I should have went in for a tetanus booster after handling that old wire but I'm sure I'll be fine.

This is how I attached it, with staples.

I did get some assistance from my helpful hubby he showed me how to attach eyelets and wire so I could hang it.  I love the way it came out and now I can display our photos in a rustic vintage style.

This is the eyelet with wire.

AFTER...I love it!!

Thank You

Since today is Thanksgiving the holiday for acknowledging what we're thankful for, I knew I needed to make a post dedicated to all our supporters. So here it is a letter to each and everyone out there following us on this journey. Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters of Every Type      I'm writing this because I recently did a story on Instagram and I tried tagging all the people who have supported us and mean so much to us. But as soon as I added it I knew there were so many that I hadn't mentioned or wasn't able to tag.  There are some people who aren't on social media, I'm not sure what they do all day. How do they pass the minutes while taking in their morning coffee, who knows. Moving on, I now know how all those Oscar, Grammy and CMA winners must feel when they win and have to thank everyone in about 10 seconds. Anyhoo...      Thank you to everyone who follows us on Instagram and Facebook. Thank you to all who have ...

Fall catch up

Well our little lady is 3 months old and we've almost got her figured out. It really would be nice if babies came with manuals or maybe a live in nanny.  The homestead hasn't been getting much attention but that should be changing now.  Our honey do list for the property seems endless at the moment. We had to sit and write everything down and organize it into the coming months and weeks.       There is one project that will be ongoing until spring, raised beds.  We have come to the conclusion that we are tired of putting so many hours of work plus so much sweat into a garden that isn't yielding the harvest it should.  It was our hope to improve our soil but at this point it doesn't seem possible.  Plus the fact that we can't keep intruders from eating our plants.  Now we will be able to bring in beautiful soil and build barriers around the beds.      Some other items on our list include fencing...

New baby on the Homestead

It's been way too long since our last blog post.  Lately we've been busy with a newborn, yes getting no sleep or showers and just trying to make the little lady happy...that's the baby not wife.  We worked so hard, that's mostly a lie the hubby worked really hard getting in the garden because my big prego belly was in the way and now it's mostly a bust.  When we found out we were pregnant we should have just pressed the pause button on our big homestead projects but we thought we could do it all, boy were we wrong. The only thing still going is our tomato plants, and what's left of our jalapeno plants.  We lost the battle with the wildlife this year, they've been enjoying all of our sweat and hard work we did of planting them a great buffet of vegetables.  We got a little victory last night when we went down to the garden.  There were three squirrels in the squirrelinator, we've had that darn trap for months now and it's finally starting to pay off...
